Projects
Project Boolify
Boolify is a technology to help Primary and Middle School children understand how to construct effective web searches. The technology models web search Boolean with colored puzzle pieces. Each piece indicates a Boolean operator.
By scaffolding understanding of Boolean upon a graphical logic, young people will learn how the search construction impacts the results that are produced with each search.
The project website can be found at http://boolify.plml.org and is expected to launch formally at the end of June, 2008 after beta testing.
Me, You and History
Remember the history books that we read in Middle and High school? Were they exciting, and could you relate to them? The Teaching History project will produce a technology to help place the individual in the context of history. It’s currently in the planning phase, so stay tuned for a beta release (expected October, 2008)
Project 10: A Fellowship/Mentorship Program for (Determined) Dropouts
Many young people experience a low-wage employment rut that artificially pressures them from continuing education or career advancement.
Career advancement requires an impressive resume, and education requires time and money not available to low-wage individuals. Determined individuals, 18-25, need training, an inspirational career network and support.
This program will provide individuals with rigorous career workshops, a small stipend and mentorship. Educational emphasis will be placed upon public oration, writing and social change. Mentees will be expected to develop their career, or to work toward a full degree. Partnerships with major nonprofits & schools make this possible.
