About
History & Mission
The Public Learning Media Laboratory is an educational innovation engine founded in late 2007 by a group of Technology, Innovation and Education and Mind, Brain and Education graduates of the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
The organization was formed to provide technological responses to the variety of educational challenges that could be met with the right mix of expertise, rapid prototyping, formative evaluation and public accessibility.
As a result, the mission of the Public Learning Media Laboratory is to develop accessible media and programs that improve the quality and diversity of educational resources available to K-12 students.
In order to deliver on its mission, the Public Learning Media Laboratory brings together highly interdisciplinary groups of volunteer educators, developers and researchers who collaboratively contribute to the development a specific educational product and/or program (”project”). A small core staff operates the laboratory and manages development.
This system ensures that the PLML will remain highly flexible and adaptable to shifts in education, technology and research.
